It’s been brought to my attention by a colleague and fellow Blogger that someone else has now adopted my Blog name of “The Accidental Genealogist” over at WordPress. This is apparently a new Blog only a couple weeks old (first post is dated August 24, 2009) and not to be confused with THIS Blog, which I have been writing since June 28, 2006.
Are You Seeing Double?
In order to avoid any confusion with future Blog posts, I want to make all of my readers and fellow genealogy Bloggers aware of this other Blog carrying the same title. I am in no way associated with this other Blog, nor are any of the postings or comments associated with that Blog a reflection of my own thoughts or opinions.
I’ll continue to post material to my own Blog site. My thanks to all of the faithful readers who have followed this Blog over the past three years.

I never even thought about the fact that someone could do that – thanks for pointing it out. I think I'll go sign up for a wordpress blog myself just so that I can still have "my" blog name.
Neither did I…so you could imagine my surprise when I learned about it. A bit of research–even just a Google search–would have shown that someone (me) had already been blogging using the name.
I never thought about the possibility that someone else could use the same name for a blog, and I never checked Google to see if someone else was already blogging under the same title as the one I planned to use.
But even securing a URL at WordPress or LiveJournal or Blogger doesn't prevent someone else from giving their blog the same title as another blog. I think the only way to prevent that from happening would be to trademark the name of the blog.
