Welcome to my Blog!

Welcome to my Blog!

This is my first foray into the world of blogging! I’m not someone who typically follows the latest trend or fad, but I admit I have been intrigued with blogs for quite awhile now. I began writing creatively in the fourth grade and won several English/Writing awards in high school and college. I earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Nonfiction Writing, and have written four books, and numerous magazine and newspaper articles. For some reason, however, the thought of writing in cyberspace gave me a severe case of “writer’s block!” Mostly I struggled with finding a topic to write about on a daily basis that could possibly interest other readers. So, I went back to the old adage, “write what you know.”

I decided this blog would focus on two subjects I know something about: genealogy and writing. Here I’ll share my thoughts, experiences, profiles on some of my favorite ancestors, and other useful information for genealogists who like to write, as well as tips on writing and publishing for writers who happen to be genealogists. This blog will not be a chronicle of “what’s new in the genealogical world.” There are a number of other bloggers who already effectively provide this information. But from time to time, I’ll write about new or exciting developments in the area of online genealogy, or share important announcements that will benefit genealogists (and then point you to the links where you can get more information). I will also occasionally recommend or comment on new books with genealogical themes, books I am currently reading, or books written by my favorite authors. I suspect that as the blog evolves, the nature of my postings will vary as well.

I hope you will be patient with me as this blog develops. Feel free to add your own comments and share your stories/experiences. We’ll see where it takes us.

By the way, if you’re wondering why I chose “The Accidental Genealogist” as the title for my blog, stay tuned… I will answer that question in my next post!

Thanks for visiting!
